Mission Youth is a group of young people that seeks to share the joy and love of Christ to those around them. It’s an apostolate of the Regnum Christi Federation, which forms young people for the task of spreading the Gospel, carrying out Christ’s command “Go into all the world and spread the Good News”. We are inspired by John Paul II’s famous and urgent call “Be Not Afraid!” and his invitation to engage in what he called a “New Evangelization”. Our missionary activity seeks to do this through formation, charity, and spirituality.
It’s central to the mission of Mission Youth to bring young people together to form them. This happens in 3 ways:
1. Community: Missions are fun! You get together with friends and share the experience. This isn’t by accident. By forming a community that lives charity – lives the Gospel – we become more who Christ calls us to be.
2. Preparation for the mission. At each mission, we cover both the theory and practice of what we are trying to do, filling our minds and hearts with the message, and honing skills for the mission.
3. Experience. To be there and to do it is the best way to learn. We’ve seen youth utterly transformed by the experience. It also helps to share and discuss about it afterwards, so as to reflect on what we learned.
In conclusion, it’s true to say that the primary goal of Mission Youth, even before the outreach to the world around us, is the transformation of the lives of the Missionaries!
Our mission in Hamilton has many practical parts, but really it’s very simple: to love, and spread Christ’s love. There are so many ways we have tried to do this effectively.
For this reason it’s so important that missionaries know and experience love, through the community, and through spirituality, so that we can be full of what we are about to give.
Since our mission is so focused on Christ and his Love, there is one aspect that must be present in every mission: prayer. Usually our day-missions include many moments to encounter Christ, the Source and Center of everything we do.
All this gives our youth the opportunity to deepen in their own spiritual life, which is the greatest transformation and the most important part of Mission Youth’s existence.
We long to make a difference in the world, but as we all know, it starts with changing ourselves. Becoming more intimate with Christ is where it all begins.
